The Nori is seaweed that is responsibly harvested and roasted in Korea, the seeds, tamari and cider vinegar are all organic.

The ingredients are full of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, iodine, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, carotenoids, manganese, selenium and vitamins A, C, E, K, B2, B9 & B12.

The main ingredients are activated sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. These are seeds that get woken up by soaking them. The dormant seed begins to grow and becomes active, often this is seen as the first signs of the seed sprouting. The reason for activating the seeds is that there is a chemical change that happens and this makes them easier to digest and allows for better nutrient absorption. By drying them at low temperatures none of the nutrients are damaged. These are then further soaked in a flavour bomb combination of apple cider vinegar, tamari , spices and nutritional yeast which makes the mix so full of flavour. Then all of this wholesome deliciousness is wrapped in a nori sheet. Now seaweeds are one of the most underutilised health foods. Not only do they contain loads of minerals and trace elements including iodine which is important for the thyroid, seaweeds also contains vitamins, amino acids and essential fatty acids. This roll is then slowly dehydrated to lock in all that goodness.

We first heard of this snack from a friend who had tasted them in South Africa. There they call them ‘Vegan Droe wors’. Droe wors is a dried sausage, a very tasty, popular snack in South Africa. Even though I’ve been vegetarian since 1990 I still remember what it tastes like and I just had to try make this as couldn’t find anyone selling it in the UK. Managed to find the recipe and just thought it was the most delicious thing ever and thought it was something I’d really like to share. Having a vegan daughter & myself trying to be mostly vegan I know that the things that vegans often lack are B12 and iodine and this snack is full of it. So a wonderful way to include these essential vitamins in the diet.

Have done a couple taste tests with Droe wors fans, one comment was that it doesn’t really taste the same but it’s got the same texture and he could eat it all day .
